Glossary
Terms describe the source-checked documentation model, not guarantees of behaviour or conclusions about consciousness. Follow a linked explanation for mechanisms and limits.
| Term | Meaning here |
|---|---|
| Identity | The continuing entity represented through its records, signing identity and reconstructed context; not merely the current model or dashboard window. Introduction |
| Host | AII OS code handling storage, configuration, requests and capability boundaries. It is distinct from model output. Architecture |
| Operator | The human responsible for configuration, authorization and consequential choices. Delegating a task is not automatically granting all requested access. Authority |
| Model | The selected system generating a response to composed input. Models |
| Provider | An entry specifying service address, protocol, authorization and model-related settings. |
| Substrate | The model connection in use for inference; configured selection and active connection can differ during a change. |
| Context / prompt | Input composed for a particular model request; selected material, not necessarily the entire stored history. Conversation |
| Context window | Capacity limit of a model request; prompt, output and related allocations compete for it. |
| Ledger | Signed ordered identity-event history. Not every ordinary Chat message is a ledger entry. |
| Interaction history | Recorded conversation and related interactions managed through the host's storage path. |
| Recall | Retrieval of retained material; a hit, inclusion in context and correct use are different events. Continuity |
| Working state | Task-relevant state/context; do not assume it has the same durability as a signed event. Memory/work |
| Project | A workroom with an outcome, criteria and evidence, not a guarantee that planned work occurred. Projects |
| Tool / plugin | An operation exposed to the identity; plugin availability, grants and receipts depend on host handling. Capabilities |
| Grant | Operator-controlled permission for specified capability use, not unrestricted authority inferred from a request. |
| Receipt / evidence | A record of what the host or an observed check establishes; a model's claim alone does not prove an external effect. |
| Snapshot | A retained restore artifact with particular coverage, not a behavioural baseline or guarantee of successful recovery. Backup |
| Birth | The deliberate founding path that sends a prompt to a model and can create an identity/key/record. Not an installation preview or restore. First use |
| SAFE / safe mode | Protective frozen-record operation; chat is transient, not a durable write. Recovery warning and limits |
| Witness | Separate service holding signed evidence of record progression; not a backup store. Recovery warning |
| Anchor | Submission of a signed record number/hash to the witness for a receipt. |
| Attestation | The witness's signed receipt of that record point, not endorsement of its content or a recovery guarantee. |
| Source-checked | Supported by inspection of a pinned implementation. It does not mean runtime-tested, screenshot-verified, accessible or reader-validated. |
| Figure classes | Every figure names its provenance in its first word. Diagram — drawn for this guide to show a structure or path; the arrangement is the author's. Reproduction — drawn to match the product's own source (layout, labels, palette) at a named version; it is not a capture, and your install may differ in port, slot or model. Screenshot — a real capture of a running install; none are published yet. A reproduction shows what the interface looks like; only a screenshot shows what yours did. |
